Working Weekend

What a weekend!!!

Our plan was to move the shelves (huge shelves) that Sir Steve had built in our basement to store our extras - like seasonal decorations.  We aren't leaving one thing in this house that we paid for/built.  Sir Steve asked his boss last week if he could borrow the shop truck to move the big stuff (wood for the shelves and the new wardrobe we bought for the lil one's room)   One of the guys who works with Sir Steve in the office volunteered to come and help with his truck!!  This is a single guy and we couldn't believe he would get up early on Saturday to help us!!   But help he did !! So it took one trip to the new house and we got everything we needed moved bright and early Saturday morning.

Sooooooooo - on Saturday Sir Steve hung curtains in the downstairs windows... and built the wardrobe for the lil one's room.

Sir Steve building the wardrobe - see the curtains ?? they accentuate her rug which is black/white and grey.

and here it is finished.

My job was to oil the wood cabinets in the kitchen.  They are real wood (dated yes - but real wood!!) and I don't think anyone had done anything to them in years!!

We have been bringing the dog along - to try and get her used to the new house.  She gets so excited when we are packing the cars ...... but when we get to the new house she wanders around whining...... le sigh.  She's so confused!  Sir Steve did buy her a new big bed for the new big house.  She finally settled down - for short periods before she got up and wandered around whining again....... hopefully when we get everything moved in and are actually living there she'll settle down.  She doesn't understand 'moving'.

On Sunday we were back at the house.  This time we moved all our summer clothes. AND we had bought a temporary vestibule to put up on the back deck because there's no protection from the weather - and we smoke outside.  It took most of the morning to get it assembled.  What a job!!  But well worth it - considering our winters

AND that's what we did this weekend (fun eh?? le sigh)

  1. I love having peeks into your new house. The wardrobe looks lovely, and are those real wood floors? Lady will adjust once you are there permanently, but good for her to experience the house little by little.

We needed somewhere for a puppy to go potty when we thought we would be getting one in December, so we bought a greenhouse, similar to your vestibule but with shelving so it would serve a dual purpose. The puppy arrived in summer so we didn't need it for either purpose, but it will be great for seedlings come spring, when we assemble it (UGH!)

    1. no the floors are laminate - but reasonably good quality. The kitchen floors are the worst:( they're parquet and in desperate need of sanding and refinishing. We'll do that sometime in the future.. for now we're going to use restore it a product Sir Steve heard about.

I wondered how our dog would like walking through the vestibule to actually get outside .. she had no problem - pushed her way through the door :) I like your idea of a green house... we're gonna take ours down come spring and put up a sun umbrella for inclement spring/summer weather :)

  2. It looks like you got a lot accomplished. I love the wardrobe. Now how is the temporary vestibule attached - I picture it blowing away in your weather. I bet when you guys are all settled and calm the dog will be too.

    1. I asked Sir Steve the exact same question 'how does it not blow away" he screwed it down to the deck.... YAY! now we just have to keep the snow cleared off the top of it... so it doesn't collapse under the weight. Heard yesterday a friend of ours had snow slide off his house roof onto his back deck and it tore the deck right off his house!! give you an idea how much snow we can get and how much damage it can do.....

  3. Hi Morningstar,

Wow, what a busy weekend but you achieved so much! Love seeing a peek at the new house. The wardrobe looks awesome. I too was curious about the temporary vestibule but saw your reply above.

    1. when I first started blogging some of us had 'home corners' posts where we showed bits of our homes. I am thinking of doing a 'home corner' post from time to time with the new home... I LOVE decorating!!

  4. Hey! I'm a single guy and if I lived in your area, I would happily lend a hand. Got to admit though, that I would prefer Saturday afternoon to the morning. :)
