The Last of The Home Corners....

Saturday was the day to finish off the unpacking/decorating.... exactly one week after we moved.  (though Sir Steve pointed out - because of work and other schedules - we actually got it done in 3 1/2 days!  I think that may be a new record)

We pulled the Master suite together........... but not before we ran out to the hardware store to buy one addition for the bedroom..................

We hung pictures and sorted out Sir Steve's chest of drawers.............. and lo and behold just like that it was done!

Follow me up the stairs .....................

the first thing you see when you round the corner at the top of the stairs is.............

If you turn around ............

And across the bedroom (my side of the room)

and finally - those eye bolts that Sir Steve bought were installed for use on Sunday

And that's about it for the grand tour of our new home...........
well unless you want to see the basement??? It's organised too.... and the biggest feature is ....... a dry basement ... trust me - considering the rain and melting snow - that in itself is a major improvement over the other place.

(Sir Steve built the shelves for the other place and we brought them with us to help keep the camping/Christmas stuff organised)

More Home Corners...

I am thrilled to say - we're just about all organised.  The only room left to finish is the "Master suite"... and that will be done tomorrow.  OH wait.... there's still the basement to organise... but that doesn't count does it?? (grinning)

So here's the last two rooms on the main floor finished..........

The kitchen.........

well it's a kitchen - not much to do - and no I'm not opening cupboard doors to show you my dishes ........ BUT I did add some personal touches....

And then there's the den / guest room..........

see the rug?? Interesting story about that rug...... I went looking on Amazon for a blue rug....... and after much looking  found this one..... and loved it.   I left it on my 'wish list'  until after we moved.  It didn't make sense to order it and move it - better to wait and have it delivered to the new house right?? I just prayed it would still be in stock when we were ready to order.

Wellllllllll last week I went to order it...... and OMG!  it was on sale - half off!!  I couldn't believe our luck............... BUT it gets better .........
When we were packing up we came across a gift card for Amazon we had forgotten about....... (don't ask!)  so between the gift card and the sale - that rug cost us a grand total of $17.00 !!!  It adds a finishing touch to the room and just pulls it all together.....

Life is good when a plan comes together

A Kinky Move - part 2

It was almost the end of the day on Saturday - and youngest daughter insisted on getting our bed put together so we would have somewhere to sleep.  The kids stayed downstairs - flaked out in the living room and the adults marched up the stairs to tackle the bed in our room.

Do you remember our room ?? that massive loft space???  In case you don't here's a picture..........

Everyone was milling around - and youngest daughter and her husband and my other SIL started putting the frame together... after asking where exactly we wanted the bed....  it was decided the bed would go against the wall with the small roundish window - under the beam.

Didn't take long - and after the bed was made.. I was standing at the foot of the bed under the beam - Sir Steve came up to me - close up against me - and said quietly - I have plans for that beam.............

I'm sure my face was flushed when I turned around to head back downstairs... fortunately no one noticed or heard - OR - if they did they didn't mention it.........

Sounds like there will be fun times ahead in our new 'Master suite'

A Kinky Move...... (part 1)

I'm wondering how many of you have heard of 'mummification'??

Back in the day I was mummified a few times.  There are all sorts of materials that can be used - duct tape being one - and shrink wrap being another.

The shrink wrap comes in rolls (cause you tend to need a lot) ...........

it's pretty simple to use - you start at the top of your intended subject and wrap it round and round the body - moving down as you go...... until you have them wrapped tight.

So what does this have to do with your move morningstar??  You ask..........

Sir Steve was wondering out loud one evening in January how we were gonna pack all the lil one's buckets of toys - and the bins in the cabinet in the living room... and and and - so many awkward bits to pack.  I had come across his roll of shrink wrap when I was sorting out our cupboard.......... I said 'I thought we could just shrink wrap them all'
(shrug) seemed simple to me.

That last week before our move we shrink wrapped everything that was too awkward to pack in a box........ we even wrapped the container that holds all our cutlery.... and the small chest of drawers (not emptied) in our bedroom.  Everything looked very neat and tidy and mummified.

On Saturday youngest daughter was walking around the mess and she came across the lil one's mummified toy bins....... and then the mummified  cutlery and the mummified bins from the living room.   She was quite taken with the idea....... and asked how we came up with the idea of saran wrapping everything AND where did we ever find a roll big enough????  I'm not sure who answered if anyone - I nearly choked when I heard her question and made a quick exit to another room........

All I kept thinking was - what would she think if she knew that 'saran wrap' had been used to mummify her mother......... and I smiled from ear to ear......

The Bumps and Grinds of Moving

So the move went off with out too many problems.......

There was the incident with snow.......

We had a lot snow on the Friday - so Sir Steve went out to clear our back driveway... yanked on the snowblower starter - only to have it break off in his hand.  Back to manual labour........ he grabbed the shovel and started to shovel the drive when the shovel fell apart.......... GAH!!!  Nothing to be done - we just managed to plow the trucks through the snow .... and move everything out.  The driveway here was clean as Sir Steve had arranged to have it plowed out early Saturday morning!  YAY!!

AND there was my attempt at acrobatics...

At some point Friday morning I was packing up the bits and pieces in the kitchen when Sir Steve spoke to me (or I spoke to him - who can remember??) and I turned to look at him.. caught my foot on a box and started to fall - put my hand out and grabbed a chair to stop my fall and only made matters worse bringing the chair down on top of me... bashing my back into the garbage pail (and denting it).  I was a tangle of boxes .... body parts.. and god only knows what else.  I think I'm lucky I didn't break anything..... in the boxes or  my body.  BUT I did manage to strain my back muscles/tendons... and bruise myself from head to toe.

Yesterday I was still suffering from aches and pains...... and exhaustion.  I don't think I have ever been this tired before.... I believe I am due a vacation........ a nice long vacation. And please dear lord........ no more moves .. PLEASE!

Home corner posts will return when the last rooms are complete to my satisfaction (grinning)

I'm back in real time.......

Well I'm back online.  Actually we were back online on Saturday night - but GAH!!  exhaustion ya know???

The move couldn't have gone better - the alarm system was moved without a hitch... the internet went as smoothly.  Saturday morning both my girls showed up with husbands and kids (kids are teenagers) and my lord did they all work!!!

The girls and I came to the house while the movers loaded the big stuff and the men folk loaded all the boxes.  It was a whirl wind...... at one point eldest daughter sent me to the living room and told me to sit!  I was so close to tears all day....... stress is a wonderful thing.

You wouldn't believe it - they started loading the trucks at 9:30 and by 2pm we were eating lunch!!! My girls worked hard to empty boxes - especially the kitchen and get it pulled together.    Eldest daughter brought us a cake to celebrate.............

Both Sir Steve and I were overwhelmed with their help / love.  Honestly this has to be the best move ever!

Sunday was spent opening boxes and sorting things out..... we got our room almost 75% pulled together... and the kitchen is about 90% together... the den is coming along... BUT - we spent most of the day working on the lil one's room.... so it would be ready for her to unpack when she got home mid afternoon.  She has been talking about wanting a 't'ween bedroom' ever since we knew we were moving........ it was her one big wish!

We all worked together emptying her boxes and hanging pictures and sorting out books and toys..... and her room is complete!!

Here's the before shot of her room

And here it is now..........

She announced she got her wish - a t'ween bedroom!  and SHE LOVED IT !!!

Sir Steve decided to take today off so we can get more of the house finished.... stay tuned for more "home corners".

2 Days to Go.......

We're down to the last days....... and last boxes.. and the last odds and ends....

Our security system was moved yesterday without a hitch!!  YAY!!  maybe it's an omen for good things?

As of midnight tonite we will be without internet and without TV..... tomorrow they are (supposedly) moving our internet to the new house - which means I should have TV and internet on the weekend....... that is if everything goes according to plan....

I have queued up  posts for Saturday AND Sunday - but promise I'll pop in over the weekend -  if everything goes according to plan

Pink Shirt Day

I'm assuming everyone knows about Pink Shirt Day and the history behind it...5 years ago - my first Pink shirt day with the lil one........ I remember Sir Steve running out to "Loblaws" the night before Pink Shirt Day to buy the lil one a pink shirt.  Since then we have made sure we have had a pink shirt for her to wear.  She is quite the advocate for Anti Bullying........... which makes us both very proud.

This year my eldest daughter bought herself a 'cricut'

I had no idea what this machine was - or what it could do.  She has made some gorgeous one of kind cards - got one for my birthday and one for Christmas.  BUT apparently there is a whole slew of stuff you can make with this machine.  And she has a gift list as long as your arm filled with accessories she needs/wants.

She asked me a couple of weeks ago if we would like her to make a 'one of a kind' pink shirt for the lil one.  Of course we would!!  I had no idea what it would look like - kinda figured it would be a pink tshirt with an iron on transfer.  Imagine my surprise when she gave it to us............ it isn't an iron on transfer - at least not like the ones you usually see.  The lil one was absolutely delighted with her Pink Shirt tshirt..... made especially for her!  by her aunt!!  She said she couldn't wait to show her teacher and tell him about Auntie L making it just for her!!

(not only is she the poster child for anti-bullying she's also amazingly appreciative of gifts !!)

Anyway ..........

Today - Pink Shirt Day - was already booked to be a busy day - the alarm company was coming in this morning to take out the alarm system and move it to the new house.  Yesterday we had a major ice storm and had received about 1/2 inch of ice

Today we are supposed to get more freezing rain........... and no school buses - which means Sir Steve is driving the lil one to and from school - le sigh.

The technician texted us at 5:00 am to say he would be here in 2 hours!

Then the sump pump (remember our flooded basement?) had been running all night.  We know that cause it's so noisy it kept waking us up.  So I decided to take a peak downstairs and make sure everything was dry - well relatively dry.  It wasn't!  we have a flood again in the basement!!  I need this? now??!!

The tech showed up at 7:30am............. and by 7:45 he was ready to move on to the new house..... Sir Steve met him there... then came home and got the lil one.  I had almost forgotten her in all the confusion!!  She came out of her bedroom sporting her new pink tshirt looking so proud.  The one calming aspect to my day...... the lil one sporting her new tshirt.............

The new alarm is going in at the new house........ apparently the new landlord is sending  a plumber to look at the flooding...........

How many more days till we move?? 3 more days........... I can do this !!

4 Days

Last 4 days before the move........ and we're pretty much ready.........

well except for all the last minute things - like taking the beds apart - packing the toothbrushes and towels and the coat hooks and the lights and the fridge and the freezer and and and........... (taking big breath)

Right now ..... and for the next 4 days it will be a day of 'lasts' .... like today - I'm doing the last load of laundry in this house...... am packing up the laundry supplies...... last week I did my last grocery shopping at the local small grocery store..... I'll be running to our local dollar store today for my last time........ we are saying our goodbyes to our neighbours - they were good neighbours and I will miss them.

And I realize - for the first time in my life - I am feeling sad about leaving this home... I'm usually much more pragmatic about moving - it's just a building - we make the home - etc etc....... but this time? I just feel a little sad.

Food Adventures

One thing that happens when you're moving is trying to empty the freezers - yes freezerS ... we have 2 of them.  Last week I suggested to Sir Steve that I would make 'cooked' breakfast on Monday (it's a holiday here).... eggs and bacon.

On Saturday I took the bacon out of the freezer..... On Sunday I remembered the promised 'cooked' breakfast...... Today I completely forgot the 'cooked' breakfast and Sir Steve had to remind me......... GAH!!!

I dashed off to the kitchen......... and skidded to a halt.  I have packed the whole kitchen!!!  How the devil was I supposed to make bacon and eggs???? I had a fry pan - milk - bacon and eggs..... but no utensils ....... GAH!  I altered the menu slightly - scrambled eggs would work right?? EXCEPT I didn't have a bowl............ improvise!  I did have a coffee cup.............

Breakfast got cooked................

(and yes we're using paper plates !  AND for those of you wondering - if I packed the whole kitchen - what we're gonna eat this week........ we are ordering chinese food tomorrow.  We're gonna order our usual 4 different dishes that usually feeds us for 3 meals....... Tuesday to Thursday 'cause Friday Sir Steve is taking me out to our favourite - only for special occasions - restaurant.)

Then yesterday when Sir Steve was packing up his cupboard/night stand he discovered a Christmas gift for me that he had forgotten about..........

My absolute favourite chocolate!!  I broke it open yesterday and indulged...........

Then this morning Sir Steve and I went outside for a smoke.  When we came back in this is what I saw.............

The dog who NEVER steals food!!  decided she just had to have MY peanut butter cup!!!

Moving!!!!!!!!!  who knew it would be such an 'adventure'..........
