Almost Time......

Every year on the 1st of December The Journey is redecorated for the holiday season.  So guess what I will be busy doing for the next day or so..... (trying to remember how to edit the template and trying to remember where I stored all the blog's decorations )

I think during the month of December I will bore you all with giddy tales of Christmas excitement -- fill your diet filled days with recipes filled with sugary goodness -- and share fond memories from Christmases past........

I know (small smile) I have a few 'grinches' who visit here....... who knows ? maybe your hearts will grow a few sizes -- or else you'll take a sabbatical from visiting (bigger grin)

It IS the most wonderful time of the year!!

Remembering.............

On Tuesday night as I laid in bed coughing and feeling like crap I remembered when I was young and how my mom would rub my chest with Vicks Vapor rub and then tie one of my father's handkerchiefs around my neck making sure the lubricated area was covered.  I can remember her gentle massaging of the vicks into my skin - the comfort that came from her touch. 

I remember in the mornings being moved to my parent's BIG bed - feeling the cool sheets against my skin..... loving how my mom would tuck me in tightly .. how safe I felt.  I can remember the glass of juice with a straw sitting on my dad's chest of drawers and how my mom would come in regularly to give me sips from the glass.
I even remember the doctor making house calls (yeah I am THAT old!!)

I remember how as I slowly got better my mom making a 'bed' on the couch in the living room in the afternoons and being allowed to watch TV ..... remember getting one oreo cookie and a glass of milk...... dipping my cookie in the milk (the only time I was ever allowed to dunk cookies - grinning) 

Mostly I remember never thinking I wouldn't get better...... my mom and her vicks and her big bed would always make me better.

Keeping Promises

So I saw the doctor yesterday -- it appears I have bronchitis and low levels of oxygen in my blood - which explains a whole lot of problems I've been having.  I was sent home with two prescriptions and a stern lecture about taking care of myself 

OR

I would land myself up in hospital.  I do not want to land up in hospital!  
I promised the doc and myself that I would take it easy for the next 10 days - take my meds and drink loads of water........ and in 10 days be back on my feet. 


BUT

I had made another promise ....... to the lil one.  and I intended to keep it... the Christmas tree was going to go up last night. 

Before leaving for the doctor's I had emptied the spot where the tree was going and found the new decorations we had made and purchased.  I had emptied the shelves in the hallway ........ All in preparation for the decorating. 

When Sir Steve got home he put the tree up -- our new 7 foot tree!! It is wonderful to have a full size tree again!! and he dragged all the bins of decorations up from the basement.

Then when the lil one got home we started decorating........ 
my job was to sit on the sofa and pull the decorations out of the bins/bags and direct the lil one and Sir Steve where to put them. 

The lil one said more than once how this was the BEST night ever!!  
Once the tree was up and decorated and the rest of the house sporting its touches of Christmas I popped a bunch of chicken wings/potatoe skins and sausage rolls in the over for a 'buffet finger food' supper.  We all munched away while watching our first Christmas movie of the season "The Christmas Chronicles".

Today I am on the sofa in my pjs resting and drinking water..... Sir Steve will take the lil one to the bus till the end of the week and a neighbour will pick her up and bring her home......... 

Life is good when you keep promises

Murphy's Law

We seem to be going through an extended period of "Murphy's Law"

Last week we were gearing up for Christmas ..... and my youngest grandson's 10 birthday.  On Wednesday afternoon I received a phone call from youngest daughter (mother of youngest grandson) telling me that her father in law (grandpa to youngest grandson) had died suddenly ....... went for a nap and never got up.  Everyone was in shock!

We decided to have a small family birthday party for youngest grandson on Saturday ... wasn't necessarily the happiest of birthdays BUT it was important to acknowledge that life goes on............. 

Sir Steve and I had plans for a private Grey Cup (Canadian football) on Sunday -- but both of us were down with some bug (yes another one for me) So our party was quiet and subdued without the enthusiastic munching on football munchies with football enthusiasm.

Monday I had plans to meet up with a girlfriend for coffee.........I cancelled. This bug is kicking my butt and between coughing up a lung all night - sinus pain -- and a sickish stomach it just didn't seem like a good plan........ 

Tuesday (today) is scheduled to be "Put up the Christmas Tree" day........the lil one has been counting down the days for the last two weeks!  After another night of coughing up a lung ..... and any form of exertion leaving me gasping for air and coughing... I managed to get an 'emergency' appointment with my doctor.  Come hell or high water we're gonna have our Tree Decorating party tonite....... we 'promised'.

As for the plans for the rest of the week ..........  well to be truthful I'll wait till I see the doctor before I cancel or confirm any further activities!  My goal right now is to be healthy in time for Christmas (not setting the bar TOO high this time!)
