'Member back in March and April how we all kinda checked up on one another?? Then as things settled into a new normal rhythm we all stopped?? Recently with an upswing in number of cases again - and talk of the 2nd wave - I have been wondering how you folks are doing in your small corner of the world.
Last night I went to 2 - TWO! - virtual school meetings for the lil one. During the day I had read a couple of times hints that our schools might close again. I was hoping I would get more information at the meetings.... and I wasn't disappointed. At both meetings they talked about the strong possibility of the schools closing down again. Our lil town is between 2 hotspots - Ottawa and Montreal... and more than a few residents work in those 2 cities. Our numbers have been slowly climbing back up again. In the spring we had a total of 20 cases...... since August we have gone up by 21 new cases!! which on the big scale of things really isn't that many - a total of 41 cases in 8 months...... but still it's worrying.
In this house we are still self isolating - I only go out once a week for groceries... and want these dental appointments to be over!! I feel very exposed when I go - even though the precautions taken at the offices is impressive.
Last week when I was at the denturist's office I overheard a couple of his nurses talking about getting hair dresser appointments cause... they seemed to think the salons will be closing down again!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!! Fortunately I have an appointment this Friday (please don't close them down on Thursday!)
So tell me - what's it looking like in your corner of the world???
Nice to read your update...we are in about the same place...sadly numbers of deaths are creeping up again...schools that opened are now thinking about all virtual for the second half of the year. I will not say what I think about our leader...it might get you censored....I went thru a slight depression for a couple of weeks...but keep reminding myself of my blessings. M has been busy...thank goodness...doing a complete remodel of his son's house....hugs abby
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm really doing just fine. But I worry about others - my daughter is teaching in person and I worry. My son and son-in-law live in NYC and I worry. Both sides of the family have decided not to gather for Thanksgiving or Christmas and I agree, but I think it's very sad.
ReplyDeleteI believe this will be a dark winter for us all, but I do have great hopes for the spring. Hopefully we'll have a new leader, a new vaccine and renewed hope that things could be well on the way to normal. But this winter we're going to have to work to keep up each other's spirits.
We are creeping up slowly too, although not frighteningly so. One or two cases reported each day in the papers, mainly students of people who bring it in from hot spots. Everyone wears masks and obeys the rules I go out only when necessary, for groceries, beer, wine and drugstore items. I miss going to the mall to browse, but not necessary.
ReplyDeleteHope your mouth heals quickly.
Hugs,
Hermione
Belgium is falling apart. Last I Looked the adverage daily new infections where a bit shy of 8500 and are expected to be over 9000 a day before the weekend, that is in a country with a population of just over 11000000. Every country that I know of has declared us a red travel zone, so the Christmas trip to see the family is cancelled. The new government has closed all the bars and resturaunts (the shops are still open), imposed a midnight to 5am curfew and banned the sale of alcohol after 8pm (damn my 2am whisky runs are finished :) ) and you are only allowed 1 close contact outside of the members of your household. And on top of all that my spellchecker does not seem to be working today. I hope that the new restrictions here turn things around soon, everybody has had enough here.

Honestly Morningstar?
ReplyDeleteI am totally freaking out over here. It is stressful enough going back to work after being a stay at home mom for 16 years but doing it in a pandemic? Crazy! I am working at a school that is in a region that is back into level 2 restrictions. And just for fun, the teachers are welcome to work from home 3 afternoons a week, but the rest of us arent (and honestly, my job can totally be done virtually). I am frustrated with that. I doubt the schools will close again though. Economics and politics are playing too big of a role now. The Sheriff asked me what the chances were of me contracting Covid. My answer? It isnt an if it is a when. No matter how safe I am at work, there are teachers and other staff not wearing masks or cleaning surfaces properly. And sorry, teenagers dont care so they barely wear a mask. There is no social distancing at all.
So yeah, I am a wreck over here.
Boo
I've said it before but I am so vert glad to be living in New Zealand right now! Over the past few months we have had community cases which put us back at a low level of restrictions for a few weeks. That particular cluster seems to have ended. However. There is now the possibility of further cases in the community from a port worker who contracted the virus.
ReplyDeleteOur cases now are imported cases who are in managed isolation facilities. We currently have a number of overseas fishing crews in isolation who are positive.

Not too good in the UK. The numbers are ramping up every day. Yesterday we had our highest number of new infections (over 26,500) and the day before the highest number of deaths since the first wave (241). There are political fights over financial support. At the moment the north of England, the big industrial cities are disproportionately affected by Covid and the govt is restricting funding. There are 3 'tiers' of restrictions, 1, medium (the lowest), 2, High and 3, very high. There's not that many places in tier 3 at the moment - Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, I think. We're under tier 2. Very little changes for us personally. We both work from home so we are fortunate in that we're not exposed to people. Our biggest weekly risk is attending church, and even then we go on a saturday evening (it's quieter) and wear masks (which are compulsory anyway). So just doing what we can really. Its all anyone can do. Hope you make it through safely, Morningstar. *huggggggggggs*
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks to mandatory mask-wearing we've had zero community transmissions in a couple of weeks, a few imported cases from returning citizens and business travellers, and very very few transmissions in the foreign worker dormitories so things are looking very positive.
ReplyDeleteWe're still on strict limits at restaurants (not more than 5 at a table) and all tables must be 1 meter apart, people are still social distancing in queues, altho buses and trains are back to running as usual (sometimes with no way to distance!) - people are not allowed to have more than 5 visitors in their homes, and weddings and wakes have a 100 person limit, and no food / drink are to be served at such events (for fear of people taking down their masks and using food / drink as an excuse NOT to wear them.)
