Struggling......

Most of the time I don't think about the age difference between Sir Steve and myself... most of the time (though I do believe it's always just lurking at the back of my mind)

BUT right now -- today......

I look in the mirror and see an old face looking back at me.... my hands are wrinkled and have age spots .......

I hate it !! I want to look younger and god if I had the money I would probably do something more drastic than using lotions and creams........

Sir Steve is always telling me it is only a number and it doesn't bother him at all -- and what the rest of the world thinks doesn't matter.  (yeah well when someone asked if I was his mother ??!!!  that was pretty much my worst nightmare)

It's all come to the surface again because a couple of months ago Sir Steve asked me to speak to my doctor about my hearing.  I frequently ask him to repeat things..... which then got me noticing how often I turn the volume up on the television -- or how often in crowds I can't follow conversations - it's all just noise.

Today I am seeing a hearing doctor for a hearing exam.  What if I really am losing my hearing?? What if I really do need hearing aids???  UGH!!  just another sign I am old -- as old as dirt.

And worse than that........ I have checked the prices of hearing aids...... dear god in heaven!!!  way over my budget -- between $1000 - $2000 per ear!!!!  AND our medicare doesn't cover it............

~~~~~~
AND yes I know I sound whiny and I should be counting my blessings...... but today in this moment I am feeling old .......... and ugly.
  1. MS,
    I know it's hard to believe, but not everyone that wears hearing aids is older. Many young people wear them for the same reason you describe. Our niece is almost 21 and has had a hearing aid since she was 16. She needs it, and if you need it, it will totally okay. You are actually quite brave to realize the need and act upon it. I for one and proud to know that you are listening to your man and doing as he requested. I'm also certain that Sir Steve is very much in love with you just the way you are.
  2. Hi Morningstar,
    Baker said it perfectly, I agree entirely with her. The only people that matter are you and Sir Steve, listen to him.
    I hope the appointment goes well. I have some hearing loss but have not yet opted for hearing aids. I'm beginning to wonder if I now should.
    Hugs
  3. Frank and I have both been tested for hearing ... it is something that he had to have done for work due to working with machinery. I was borderline ... he now wears hearing aids (when he remembers to wear them ;)) ... they are very unobtrusive now ... you don't notice them. However, yes, they are expensive ... but they have made a big difference.
    And re aging and age difference ... the man loves you ... and men in love wear rose coloured glasses ;)) ... you might want to consider adding a little DD to your D/s .... you might find he's able to make the bum to brain connection that will allow you to see yourself as he does [cheeky grin] ... nj ... xx
  4. My sister, who is 56 has been wearing them for close to 10 years - so it is NOT just an age thing! Further, they have some really discrete ones that are not even obvious. OHIP does cover ONE hearing aid or should as far as I know -but regardless, I think you should stop seeing this as a "luxury" and see it as a necessity - and one you deserve. You have worked hard your entire life. I know money is tight, but I also know you're a careful person and if you have RSPs, to me that would be worth breaking into them for - my sister's are tiny and so discrete, people do NOT know she is wearing them. You are allowed to do something that makes your life better!
  5. Been wearing them since i was 4, so, nope, not an age thing :) They do make a TREMENDOUS difference. If you are diagnosed as having a hearing loss, do look at them and try them. I agree with what selkie said: they are not a luxury, but a necessity. I had to be without mine for a month and a half a few years ago because a bit broke that they couldn't readily replace ... and I really, really struggled. I was very lonely (even with my husband) and it made me realise how much I depend on them. YMMV, of course, but I think its worth checking them out at the very least.
