Web Land

This came across my Facebook feed the other day - and it made me stop and think.  (ok ok maybe for just a minute or two - but still ..........)

I don't understand it - honestly I don't.  IF I post something I'm not really looking for a whole lot of response and to be truthful am amazed at the responses I do get.  So why do I post?? That's easy - cause Facebook has this thing called "memories" and every year the posts come back to remind me what I was doing 365 days ago.  I like that!!  It's the same on my blog......... I write here - BUT I do not check my stats... (NO I don't!) and am always a little surprised at the number of people who do check - and who do get bent out of shape when folks don't comment.  So why do I write on here - for similar reasons I post on FB - it's a record of my life.  You have no idea how often I go back through the years looking for something........

So I'm always surprised and maybe a little confused by people who get all b*tchy cause no one comments....... why can't you be happy with the folks who do bother to post?? You know 'a glass half full' sort of thing.

Let me ask you this - why are you writing - period??!!  For the notoriety you want / need?? You want your 5 minutes of fame every time you write??
Are you trying to get a conversation going?? REALLY?? have you really thought that through?? With the time differences... people's schedules... how can a conversation - a back and forth conversation - really take place???  OR maybe it's just your desire to be contrary and you need an outlet........... There have been many times I have read a blog and realized I had nothing to contribute ......... either because you said it all - OR I don't agree with you at all!!  but see no reason to 'stir the pot'.

All I know is that I am done with those sorts of blogs and people!  I just don't need the negativity in my life ya know???

You do You and I'll do Me

  2. Even across time-zones, I like to have conversations about things. Maybe that's more of a colloquy (instead of being in real time). But I agree wholeheartedly that I don't like drama, arguing, negativity. Well said!

    1. Jean Marie - trust me I am the first one to share on other blogs and from time to time continue the discussion if time allows....... What I can't tolerate is the narcissistic personalities that pop up from time to time - add to the narcissism contrariness to the mix then I check out!

  3. Why am I writing? I like the question. Like you, its a little like an on line diary. I like to look back sometimes too. I don't expect a conversation, but I do like the connection. I like the people here and many of them know and understand me. I don't talk about spanking, sex, butt plugs, implements and such with the people in my real life. But I know there are many like minded people here. So yes I love comments for the connection. They give me the feeling of being understood and accepted. But I don't worry when there are few comments. I don't comment everywhere I read, sometimes we get really busy. Yes we do have a life off blogs.

    1. I couldn't agree more with the connection we forge here in blog land with our readers. I look for visits from yourself... Boo... Roz.. Prefectdt - from all the regulars :) Would I be upset if you didn't comment - nope I would assume you had nothing to add - or were busy... that's just me

  4. I used to blog for support and community if I am to be honest. I enjoyed the interaction that took place in the comment section. Often those conversations were far more valuable to me than sharing my post. I didn't care how many people commented but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hurt or felt misunderstood (perhaps alone in my struggles) if I didn't end up talking in depth to a least one person about my post.

These days I don't comment often. I also read very little. But as you can attest to when I do comment I get a tad wordy. Lol. My views may not be the same as other, some appreciate that, others take it personally. I can appreciate both perspectives depending on where someone is in their lives or the sensitivity of the post for the author. Lord knows I have initially been hurt with some comments, only to read them later with a clearer head and wonder why...or just hurt. Lol.

I do not like reading blog posts about how many views they have or worse being chastised for people not commenting. Honestly I am not a fan of the "great post" comment. I suppose it's a way of letting bloggers know you read their post, but I feel if that is the reason it's not necessary. Comment on ones that speak to you .

As for Facebook I don't care if people lurk there. I pop in and out of people's Facebooks. I friended them so they have been cleared to view my life, I don't have any conditions on that- much like blogging. I wasn't private so I gave permission for strangers to lurk. Still do as my blog is up even though it's covered in dust.

Anyway I hope whatever has you feeling so passionate about this today doesn't take over (you did use a lot of ?s and !s lol. For me that's usually a sign I'm upset. Lol)

Happy Weds. Try not to freeze! I for one am over this waking to -39 !!

    1. I have been stewing (off and on) about a couple of bloggers who push my buttons - yeah yeah ! I know I shouldn't go read them..... but (sighing) sometimes I can't help myself. One in particular is a total pompous ass

I think the only time I worry about lack of comments is if I have written something - that for me - is a bit TMI ...... the rest of the time I don't much give a damn (grinning)

  5. Hi Morningstar, for me I posted as a way of having somewhere to work out thoughts and feelings and to keep a record. It's great to be able to look back later. Plus, the blog turned out to be a valuable tool in our relationship as Rick would read.

I also used to post for the connection with others and their feedback and support, which was also very valuable to us.

    1. I do love seeing you pop by Roz - and a few others - and I know that if I don't see you (in particular) I worry (especially now with covid) about you.

A lot of the time I post to get stuff off my chest.. blow off steam ya know??? then I can get on with my day/ life :)

  6. I gave up on Face Book in 2016. It just seems to be a bad platform that encourages people to develop alternative agendas. Shame, it used to be good for keeping up with the family, but WhatsApp has stepped into that role now.

    1. mmmmmmmm I think my grandkids use WhatsApp - but the daughters use FB and we have private chat channels set up so we can visit whenever we want - which has been a very good thing these last 2 years :)

    2. WhatsApp is good because it is easy to FaceTime on it, have international phone calls for free and message, as long as you are in a Wi-Fi zone. It has saved me a lot of money.

  7. I'm a FB sharer to remind myself of stuff too. MEMORIES ROCK! Also, i have some relatives abroad who keep up with photos and events of my (and mum's) life over here via the stuff i post on FB, so that's why i do it.

Sometimes if a comment is crass or vulgar or simply inane I just delete it. Especially since i have teens / ex students on my fb list.

  8. Hi, Morningstar, I blog for us. Comments are icing on the cake. But to be honest, Hoss and I are secure in who we are. If I do ask a question and no one answers then I wonder what people think, but more out of curiosity than anything else. In other words, I do not lose sleep over it.
