Down the Rabbit Hole Again!

Anyone else feel like we're all going down the rabbit hole again?

Here in the Great White North - Covid is exploding - again.  We can't get covid tests - any of the tests.... no rapid .. no PCR - well not unless we are in a high risk group or are health care persons AND have been exposed.  Our health units will not be reporting how many new cases each day cause - well no tests available ya know!  IF you feel ill - have a sore throat - or a cough - or a fever - or loss of smell and taste - or any of the other symptoms you are supposed to assume you have covid.  You are to isolate for 5 days and must be improving for 24 hours before you can end your isolation.  OH YAY!  and getting vaccines/boosters has turned into a quest of medieval proportions..... think Holy Grail proportions!

Then yesterday they announced new restrictions - going backward - AGAIN.  Inside dining is closed - gyms are closed - the list of closures is huge..... included in that list - schools are closed for in-person learning and we're back to remote learning....... home schooling........... see me curling into the fetal position in the corner????

AND then just cause I might not have enough stress to deal with - the mother informed us this morning that they all have colds....... claims they tested negative (???) and asked what time to bring the lil one back tomorrow..

Your turn - what's the rabbit hole like in your corner of the world???

  1. Honestly I would demandto see the negative tests - if she DID get them done, she'll have a record. Otherwise, she must isolate for five days as the government demands WITH the Little One.

  2. argh. i'm so sorry. Things are pretty stable in my neck of the woods except there have been videos going around of an impromptu new year's eve celebration at a popular drinking area - despite the pubs and bars being closed cos THAT'S THE LAW now. So these people were all gathered outside, standing on low walls and parapets and singing and shouting with their masks off etc. AND THEN POSTING IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA. The authorities are looking into it and have said it's now been classified as a "super-spreader" event. Stupid fecks. It's these kinds of things that prevent us from getting any closer to the light at the end of this covid tunnel.

    1. the 'covidiots' are exhausting aren't they?? and frustrating........

The one hope I'm hanging on to (well two actually) is that Omicron seems to not be AS serious as Delta - and it seems once it peaks it dies out fairly quickly. I have my fingers crossed.

  3. I have to agree with you that this officially sucks! I do think the lil one should stay with her mother for another week. They can make sure it's just a cold, make them see what home schooling is really like (thought they would probably just blow it off) and tell her you need the week to begin packing. I know none of this is really feasible, I'm just blowing off steam on your behalf. Please come here to rant whenever you have time.

    1. I LOVE that you did more of a rant than I did PK!! believe me those thoughts were in my head! We still haven't heard back from the mother - we told her she has to test the lil one BEFORE she brings her back and IF she tests negative they have to keep her........

  4. I am curled on the couch trying to relax.....it's not working.

First things first, not shocked with mother, but yeah, I wouldn't take lil one back without proof....and yet, I don't think I would want lil one with her mother....ugh.

As for the rabbit hole, did we ever really leave or is this just another tunnel???

I am unpopular in my happiness to be online for school again. It works for us and I am not around a bunch of teenagers.

I know you will rock the home schooling, you did last time but I am sorry that you are forced in to it.

    1. oh Boo - I get the happy we're back to home schooling - believe me there's a big part of me that is happy to know she will be safe here home with us and not going into the 'petri dish' every day
I'm just worried about everything I have to get done in the next 7 weeks with the move

    2. Goodness Morningstar, I totally forgot about the move! Oh I don't envy you that! I wish I could help with that.

  5. Hi Morningstar, oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about the situation there. I can't believe you can't get tests or boosters!

I wouldn't want to take the lil one without proof either. PK has a good point too, home schooling again is the last thing you need as you will have to start gearing up for the move soon.

    1. I forgot to add. Things are fairly stable here at the moment, but travel within the country is mostly un-restricted now and most everything is open again so with summer and Christmas/New years gatherings etc I'm crossing fingers. Omicron hasn't hit the community yet, though we have had a couple of scares with people arriving from overseas testing positive after being in managed isolation.

    2. lucky you Roz - this omicron is invasive - quickly invasive .... hopefully you folks can keep it out.

  6. We had a good few weeks in Belgium, with consistently falling bad numbers, after new restrictions were put in place. But, sadly, that seems to have come to an end and the figures have started to rise again. Due to Omicron and the Dutch, who are supposed to be in full lockdown, flooding into Belgium, to celebrate over the holiday period. Bringing their bad numbers with them. What happens now, only time will tell.

    Stay safe

    1. oh good lord how selfish of the Dutch - you'd think they would have shut the borders! I'll keep my fingers crossed it doesn't get too bad Prefectdt.

  7. Conditions here are similar to yours, only worse, numbers-wise. I'm so glad we got our boosters.

Ron's whole family got covid, and it was very mild, just like having a cold, so yeah, I wouldn't believe the mother. they surely have covid. as for the rapid tests, They are wrong (false negative) 35% of the time when there are no symptoms, but wrong (false negative) 66% of the time with symptoms, according to CNN.

You rock at home schooling, so dust off your lesson plans :)

  8. Things are pretty bad in the UK. Omicron is raging here, numbers are very bad - we had more than 200,000 new cases in one day here the other day. Thankfully hospitalisations are currently comparatively low (compared to how they were at the height of the delta wave for example) and deaths also low, which supports the idea of Omicron being a milder version. We've also got a LOT of people vacc'd here - 90% of the population have had at least 1 dose, 82% have had two doses, and 60% have had a booster too.

Prefectd - my husband is Dutch and we spent xmas with their family. I asked about NYE and the fireworks and was told that in the Netherlands and Germany the sale of fireworks was banned, but that many people were going to belgium to buy them (my in-laws didn't - they stayed home and obeyed the rules, sensible people that they are!). Wonder if it is worth the Belgians also banning the sale of fireworks? Much as I love my Dutch in-laws I'd be the first to admit that people can be unpleasant and selfish everywhere!!

Anyway, have just done a brain scraping (PCR Test) this morning to see if we picked up anything nasty while on our travels.. hopefully we'll test negative. then we go back to doing what we were doing: working from home and avoiding the world!

Hope your lil one gets better and comes back to you as soon as is safe for you all.

    xxx
