Bad News

Yesterday afternoon the new owner of our property showed up on the doorstep.  He informed me that we have 60 days to move out.  He plans to move in.

AND we haven't heard a word on the lil house we saw on Monday.  They had 800 applicants!!!  How do you convince someone that your need is greater than everyone else's?? How do you convince them to rent to you???

I spent yesterday afternoon - in a state of shock that fluctuated between shock and extreme anxiety/panic.  I also spent the afternoon looking for other rental properties.  Most of them are charging over $1500 a month for rent and then you have to pay for heating and electricity on top of that!!! (which could run as high as another $300+ a month)   AND there are no houses for sale in our price range on the market.

I am feeling drained and a little bit hopeless right now...............

  1. Oh goodness Morningstar, that truly sucks, especially this close to Christmas! Moving is stressful enough, let alone when it's forced on you.

I think I might have mentioned already, friends of ours are in a similar position and are moving this weekend. They didn't have to be out until Feb, but when you're told you have to move you don't muck around looking and they found another place, of course at quite a bit more cost.

Deep breaths. Wishing you the best.

  2. Oh, no! It couldn't happen at a worse time.

Just focus on finding another place pronto. Might an apartment be cheaper as an interim measure, until you find a suitable house?

    Stay strong, my friend.

  3. gawds that would fill me with anxiety too. BIG time. I had a parcel delivered to me in error and I needed to get the store to pick it up and redirect it, AND give me MY order, and that was the most anxious 24 hours of my week - i can't imagine if it was a housing issue. I might have a breakdown. I hope you find something soon. and with plenty of time for you to organise the move. Good luck!

  4. This really stinks! You ask how can your application stand out. Would a personal letter help at all? Something praising the house and saying what it would mean to your family. That might be silly, but I know you need all the help you can get. I'm praying something perfect comes your way.

    1. funny enough PK - I wrote the owners last night and told them about being 'evicted' and having 60 days to find somewhere to live ..... we had already told them that we would treat the house like it was our own - and that we would consider it our 'forever' home (they were looking for long term renters)

Now we just have to wait

  6. OMG, that's terrible news and what an awful time to pull a stunt like that!! Guess it's cheaper for him to live in it than to fix the bloody problems. Excuse my language, but what an asshat!

I'm so sorry this is happening, the stress you're feeling must indeed be terrible. Rents are crazy, crazy expensive now. Even here, where it was pretty much dirt cheap, I'm seeing increases of 500-1000 bucks higher than they were just a couple of years ago.

I hope you get heaps of good news soon and find the perfect place for your little family! Who knows, they say things happen for a reason (pretty sucky in the meantime though) It might be that the perfect solution is just around the corner waiting for you

  7. I had no idea that rent prices were so high in Canada. Two months is not a lot of time to find a new place and arrange a move. This situation sucks. I have no idea what the situation with liveable waterways are in your area, but if there are any, have you looked into buying a boat and living on that. One of my nephews, in the UK, lives on a narrowboat and he would not move back to a house, unless you put a gun to his head

  8. that's OUTRAGEOUS- especially as guaranteed they are NOT moving in -simply turfing you so they can RAISE the rent -I'm so sorry. Rentals are hard to comeby these past two years!
