Exercise

Back in the day - when you actually were given a bed in a hospital and you didn't get to go home the day of the surgery - I remember the lectures from the nurses.  Everything had to be working before you could go home - hell you even had to climb a flight of stairs and come back down them.

I remember those words of wisdom - walking was the key to good health and an early discharge.  Walking preventing blood clots from forming in your legs - breaking off and killing you.  Walking cleared the lungs and kept you from getting pneumonia and dying.  Walking got all the organs working ........ and finally earned you a discharge from the hospital.

Tuesday I wasn't up to much of anything except drinking my GALLONS of fluids ....moving slowly from one sofa on the main level to another sofa on the lower level.......... and multiple trips to the bathroom to pee.  Yeah, Tuesday I wasn't much good for anything.

BUT Wednesday I decided it was time to pull myself together and get better - NOW!
So Wednesday morning - between bouts of rain showers - I announced I was gonna go for a walk around the block.  W looked at me dubiously - made me promise to take my cell phone just in case - and off I went.

I walked to the half way mark and felt pretty damn good!!  Then I turned around to walk home and oh my god!!  It looked like a damn longgggggggggg walk.  I made it, in one piece - exhausted - with my legs shaking from the 'strenuous exercise'.   I had plans to go out after lunch with my camera........ I had found a different pathway to the green space behind our home.  I thought "photo opportunity"!!  But the rain moved in and there was no more walking on Wednesday.

Yesterday I wanted to go back to the nature walk.  I wanted to take some photos - to pass some time out of the house.  So bright and early (well ok it was 10ish - not SO early) I pulled on my rain coat and set off for another walk - complete with camera and cell phone.

I got to the path ................

and decided I would just go a little way in ......... just a little way.

Then I saw all these weird tree roots - looking for all the world like fairies lived in them - or monsters lurked behind them.........

And then I saw rain drops - jewels - hanging from the branches - and I followed their dancing patterns further into the woods....

And then I came upon the magical river that had to be traversed to reach the other side without getting too wet......

And I saw bunnies and heard birds singing and squirrels scolding ............

AND

I realized I had wandered way off the beaten path - been out god only knows how long and it was starting to rain  -  again.

I worked my way out of the forest..............

came home and collapsed.  I even admitted I had done WAY too much!!!  but oh it had been so much fun !!!

  1. I love these pics. I remember my first few walks...not nearly as far as you ventured....and forgetting that i had to turn around and walk the same distance again! Sounds like you are doing great.

  2. Taking a walk would be worth shaking legs if these are the beautiful scenes you get ot view. Absolutely gorgeous. Glad that you are home working on your recovery. The only time, so far, that I have been in the hospital is to birth a baby and after the 3rd baby, I wanted to beg for an extra day just to sleep before I went home to the other toddlers waiting for their momma. Not anymore, within 24 hours of delivery, out you go. g

  3. Oh wow, i can remember after my surgery , they made me stay in hospital for five days, and i went mad staring out of the window and wanting to be outside. Then when i went home it took me all my energy to get about the garden , (in between visits and treatment) and often i had to force myself to do so. So glad that your photo's give you focus and beautiful pictures for us to look at. Thank you for sharing Morning star
