Snippets

Yesterday was my first day back at school.......... last evening as I sat in the quiet of the living room snippets of my day floated and danced around in my memory........

My little L who suffers from extreme anxiety had dissolved as he walked in the front doors ... inconsolable....... even my hugs and quiet words of reassurance couldn't break through the panic........

My little girl - the one who haunted my days over the holidays - wondering if she got to see her mom - bounced into my office all smiles to tell me that Mom had come home at Christmas and they had spent the day together..........yes Mom had gone back to the hospital - BUT - they had had Christmas together....... best present ever if you ask me!

Tough lil M who slipped into my office quietly at noon to ask if I had any food cause she didn't have a lunch.......... tiny skinny tough lil M who carries the weight of the world on her shoulders

All the voices over the lunch hour - chattering away - snippets sneaking into my office to dance around the room......the new student teacher who thinks he's all that and then some - being introduced to me - telling me I couldn't forget such a handsome face (??!!) over confident pompous ass....

Parents in the late afternoon coming in to collect their little ones - again more voices dancing around - tales of holidays....... skating, swimming, dancing - overindulgence - trips south - swimming with the dolphins - not so happy voices - skipping over the rehash of the holidays - smiling softly - talking of having to work...... or losing work....

The mom who flounced into my office to declare her son was innocent of all wrong doings and I had to fix the school that didn't recognise his worth..........biting my tongue hard - harder - hardest - because to say something would bring on a fire storm I don't want to be responsible for..........

And then as the day drew to an end - and the voices wound down to 2 or 3 .. quiet talk of quiet things..... of new schools and no friends -  of grandpapa's funeral on Thursday ..... of daddy not working and no money.........

An awful lot of weight for such tiny shoulders to carry..............

Just snippets from a busy noisy day

The kid that hadn't eaten, that carried the weight on her shoulders - that tore me up.
